Strengthening the capacity of the Supreme Judicial Council for working with the courts in Bulgaria

The Program for the Development of the Judicial System implementated a project funded by the United States Agency for International Development and realized together with the Bulgarian Center for Development and Training. The project aimed at improving the capacity of the Supreme Judicial Council for working with the courts in Bulgaria.

The project started with a detailed presentation for the Supreme Judicial Council of the Court Improvement Plan developed by the Judicial Strengthening Initiative of the United States Agency for International Development and applied by 32 courts in Bulgaria which were part of the Model Courts and Courts in Partnership Program.

The Program for the Development of the Judicial System, in its capacity of successor to the activities of the Judicial Strengthening Initiative, presented to the Supreme Judicial Council the other activities realized with partners from the judiciary as well, such as the Concept on Information Centers in the Courts, introduction and use of information technologies in the courts – Case Management System, local training plans for the courts, building of management and training capacity, work with the National Institute of Justice, Union of Judges in Bulgaria and National Association of Court Clerks, and organization of national conferences for the magistrates in Bulgaria.

The project for the strengthening of the capacity of the Supreme Judicial Council included trainings for the administration of the Council, site visits to courts and other initiatives which help the active and successful partnership of the Council and the judicial bodies in Bulgaria.

The prohect is implemented with the financial support pf the United States Agency for International Development.
