Project on Information Centers in the Prosecutor’s Offices

USAID

The Program for the Development of the Judicial System implemented a project with the Prosecutor’s Office aimed at the development of information centers. The PDJS based its work on the Concept for Establishing Court Information Centers drawn up by the Judicial Strengthening Initiative of the United States Agency for International Development. Based on this concept, 20 information centers servicing 26 courts were opened. Thus, the PDJS assisted the elaboration of a Concept on Prosecutorial Information Centers and established one pilot information center in the Palace of Justice in Sofia. In addition, assistance was provided for the development of information materials, sample forms and other documents needed in such a center. The PDJS experts trained the staff who service the pilot center.

The project with the Prosecutor’s Office had another focus again related to ensuring fairness and transprency, namely the PDJS promoted the use of evidence carts provided to four Bulgarian courts through the JSI. The PDJS conducted meetings with the judges, prosecutors and attorneys in each of the locations where evidence carts had been provided (Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv, Veliko Turnovo) to encourage the use of the evidence carts by all participants in the judicial process.

The project is implemented with the financial support of the United States Agency for International Development.
