On 16 January 2009 in Sofia, a meeting was held of the chairpersons of Model Courts and Courts in Partnership. These are the courts which took part in the eponymous program of the United States Agency for International Development which was carried out by the Judicial Strengthening Initiative in the period 2000 – 2007.
The meetings was organized under a project funded by the United States Agency for International Development and German Marshall Fund. The chairpersons of Model Courts and Courts in Partnership discussed the continuation and promotion of the program and the inclusion of new courts in it. There are plans for new information centers to be built in court houses throughout the country so that the Bulgarian judiciary will be able to meet the high requirements in view Bulgaria's European Union membership.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the United States Agency for International Development and the Supreme Judicial Council to ensure the active collaboration of all partners in the process of improving the work of the judiciary in Bulgaria.
