The Program for the Development of the Judicial System has organised a series of presentations of the special system for presenting evidence in court hearings electronically which were held in Sofia, Veliko Turnovo and Varna in April 2008. The system was provided by the Judicial Strengthening Initiative in 2007 to the following courts: Sofia Appellate Court, Plovdiv Appellate Court, Varna District Court and Veliko Turnovo District Court.
The equipment makes it possible to present exhibits in a new and more convenient manner as they can be seen and viewed by all people present in the court room by means of a projector. It can be used to show multimedia evidence (for example, pictures, audio and video recordings) in different formats and to present documents and other three-dimensional pieces of evidence while the powerful optical and digital magnification allows one to focus on details which, otherwise, are hardly visible to the unaided eye.
The presentations organised by the PDJS have been attended by judges, prosecutors, attorneys and media and they have had the opportunity to observe and see the possibilities offered by the system of presentation of evidence. Impressions and experience from using the equipment so far have been shared and new ideas about how it can be used in the future have been identified.
